AT&T Digital PocketNet Service (Web site). The AT&T Digital PocketNet Service publishes a list of Internet phone content partners at http://favorites.mobile.att.net/content_providers. Here are some highlights.

To start your day with your horoscope or for an astrology reading, go to www.astrologyis.com. If you want to find out what people around the world are thinking about political and social issues, www.gallup.com is the place to view Gallup polls. Self-proclaimed experts on a wide range of topics call you to answer your specific questions if you have an account at www.keen.com ($5 in free calls for new members).

You can try group discount buying at www.mercata.com or order flowers or a special gift at www.ftd.com (Web site). Use your phone to join multiplayer wireless games through www.ngame.com.

If you need international reports, try www.sportsfeed.com for sports updates and www.wunderground.com for real-time weather broadcasts.

Ericsson (Web site). Ericsson's Web site for Internet phones, at http://www.mobileinternet.ericsson.com/default_web.eos (Web site), offers a search engine for locating WAP-compatible sites. Go to the site and locate the box labeled WAP Search Engine. Select your categories of interest from the drop-down menu (Computers/Internet, Culture & Society, E-commerce, Entertainment, News, and Portals are a few).

Each category has some sites of general interest, such as global weather, as well as sites for more narrow interests, such as Irish news. Both a WAP phone URL and the corresponding HTML desktop browser URL are provided for each Web site.

In the Computer/Internet category, you will find www.wapicq.com/index.wml and www.jumbuck.com/wap for WAP chat services. For access to POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail accounts and newsgroups, try http://wap.mailandnews.com.

If your leisure interests include museums, consider adding http://wap.museum.com to your bookmarks. Music lovers might try www.dotmusic.com/wap; gourmets can visit www.wapmenus.com.

Nokia (Web site). From Nokia's home page (see Figure 2) at www.nokia.com/main.html, click on WAP Search to access Nokia's wap Web site search feature, which is hosted in partnership with Excite Search. You can enter a text string for a custom search.

If you are wondering about your personality, you can take a test at QuestionserveMobile, http://wap.questionserve.com/index.wml. For accessing astrology tidbits on the go, check out www.webupkeep.com/wap/astrowap.wml. Your mobile phone can double as a dictionary, thesaurus, or measurement converter at www.phoneafact.com/index.wml.

Sprint PCs (Web site). Sprint PCs Internet phones are preloaded with Phone.com's UP.Browser. To view the Sprint PCs directory of compatible Web sites, go to www.sprintpcs.com/wireless/wwbrowsing.html and click on specially designed web sites. Here are some notable picks from that list.

Check out www.allrecipes.com for recipes, cooking tips, and help with planning. Try www.book4golf.com to reserve a tee time for your next round of golf or www.pga.com to keep abreast of golf news. Hire a housecleaner at www.efrenzy.com.

Shopping from your phone is easy with sites such as www.bn.com/onthego, which helps you find a local store or order a book; www.ftd.com for flowers and gifts; www.giftcertificates.com for overnight shipment of gift certificates from popular national stores, restaurants, and theaters; and www.storerunner.com, where you can find specific items near your location. Make sure you get the best deal by checking with www.ecompare.com and www.dealtime.com.

Take the hassle out of travel with www.citysearch.com, a site with local information and event tickets; www.getthere.com for updated flight schedules and status reports; www.hollywood.com for movie reviews and for local showtimes; and www.mapquest.com for turn-by-turn directions.

Verizon Wireless (Web site). To see a list of current content partners for Verizon Wireless subscribers, go to www.verizonwireless.com/mobileweb/mw_contentpartners.html. This site doesn't include all the URLs for accessing the partners, but the links are somewhat unnecessary; the phones' built-in menus include the sites. The content partner reference list does provide brief, helpful descriptions of each site. If you have content to offer, you'll find a link for establishing a relationship with the wireless carrier.

Mobile Portals
Phone.com (Web site). The Phone.com alliance program promotes wireless sites that work with the company's up.browser. Each month, Phone.com highlights exemplary applications, and you'll find a comprehensive list of content providers at www.phone.com/solutions/alliances_content_prov.html.

This is a limited overview of Internet phone Web resources, but the sites we've highlighted are good places to start building your mobile phone bookmark libraries for rapid access to the information you need when you need it.
