Slim Shady to Rock the Mic at the Grammys
After weeks of speculation it's official: the controversy-plagued rapper
Eminem (nee Marshall Mathers) will be performing February 21st at the
43rd annual Grammy Awards according to Allstar.com.
Each year the Grammys invites each of the Album of the Year award nominees
to perform. This year, however, with several anti-hate organizations and
critics loudly protesting the rapper's nomination, there was a lot speculation
as to whether or not the Detroit-based rapper's invite might get lost
in the mail.
In addition to the Album of the Year nomination, Eminem received nominations
for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Solo Performance, and best Rap Performance
By a Duo or Group for "Forgot About Dre" with Dr. Dre.
The rapper is currently on tour in Europe and, as we reported yesterday,
his performances are being protested by a variety of anti-hate and discrimination
groups. His lyrics, the groups contend, are homophobic and sexist, and
should not be praised.
Other acts to perform at this year's Grammys are Christina Aguilera,
Destiny's Child, Faith Hill, Madonna, *NSYNC, Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley,
and U2.
